'Great Signing' - Exclusive: Whelan wowed by Everton 2020 recruit amid Brands reveal
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Everton summer signing Ben Godfrey for his “fantastic” start to the season at Goodison Park.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds and Coventry striker claimed the “very shrewd signing” excelled in Saturday’s narrow win over Chelsea.
The 22-year-old recorded the most interceptions of any player (5) in the 1-0 win for Carlo Ancelotti’s side at Goodison Park (WhoScored).
As quoted by The Athletic, Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands hailed the £25million signing from Norwich City “a hugely talented player” when speaking in the club’s latest annual report, released on Friday.
Godfrey has made six appearances for the Toffees this season, starting the last four Premier League matches.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the defender’s start to life on Merseyside, Whelan said: “Ben Godfrey has proven to be a very shrewd signing.

“You can play him in a full-back position, centre-half or in a back three so they have a very versatile young defender in their ranks there.
“He has settled in fantastically. Absolutely, a great signing. He is one for the future as well. I am sure he will be at the club for a very long time.
“He showed his worth against Chelsea the other day, I thought he was excellent.
“I thought Everton were very worthy of the 1-0 win. Carlo Ancelotti got the game plan spot on. He got one over on Frank Lampard.”
