'Hoping we get Spurs' – Celtic fans react to CL 'group of death' as Liverpool score three

By Harry Sykes

After Celtic stuttered their way through to the group stage of the Champions League last night, losing 4-3 to Astana, fans were looking for other results to go their way.

Getting upgraded to Pot 3 in the draw could have meant avoiding the sort of group of death that they ended up in last year, with Barcelona, Man City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Celtic fans don’t need reminding that they didn’t win a group game last campaign and were hoping one of Sevilla, Liverpool, Olympiakos or Napoli would do them a favour by failing to progress.

That doesn’t look like happening. Sevilla, Olympiakos or Napoli have all booked their place in Thursday’s draw and Liverpool look like following suit.

2-1 up from the first leg in Germany, Liverpool were winning 3-1 at half-time and 5-2 on aggregate.

That means Celtic stay in Pot 4 and could possibly face a mouth-watering/scary group consisting of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham. Or possibly Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool.

Celtic fans weren’t phased though and plenty were relishing the prospect of an incredible showdown with Liverpool.

And, as one fan said, if the worst they have to worry about is which pot they’re in for the Champions League draw, life isn’t bad.

Here is a selection of their reactions on Twitter:
