Guglielmo Vicario: Tottenham flop can save his future as Roberto De Zerbi in line for appointment

Guglielmo Vicario is quickly running out of time to salvage a future as Tottenham Hotspur‘s first-choice goalkeeper.

The 29-year-old has been left extremely exposed in North London following a string of costly errors in between sticks, leading to shouts for his sale ahead of the summer window.

While his mistakes have been utterly embarrassing, Vicario is still very much a talented shot-stopper, but just happens to be one low on confidence, so interest in the goalkeeper should come as no surprise.

He is currently sidelined during the international break, but there is hope he’ll return for Spurs’ final games.

Tottenham’s transfer plans are likely to change depending on their league status at the end of the season, while the uncertainty over the managerial position is also going to play a huge role.

Roberto De Zerbi could replace Igor Tudor in North London

Football Insider understands that Tottenham are set to sack Igor Tudor within the next 48 hours, with Roberto De Zerbi the favourite to replace the former Juventus boss.

The news will come as a shock to absolutely nobody, with Spurs having won just one of Tudor’s seven games in charge, seeing them stuck above the Premier League relegation zone by just one point.

De Zerbi has a lot of knowledge of football in England from his time with Brighton, winning over 42 per cent of his games in all competitions, and 50 per cent of his Premier League games in charge.

That is exactly the type of form that would save the Lilywhites from playing Championship football next season, and his appointment could also have a huge domino effect on Vicario’s future.

Tottenham change could mean salvation for Guglielmo Vicario

When at his best, Vicario is one of the best in the league for playing with his feet, meaning he should thrive under De Zerbi, who would put a lot of trust into the 29-year-old.

While it would mean a lot of added pressure for the goalkeeper, the manager’s tactics are very structured, and as long as his teammates can handle the changes, Vicario should be able to as well.

The Italian international, who shares his nation with De Zerbi, is already confident when it comes to playing out from the back, at least when a manager has confidence in him to do so.

If De Zerbi is in charge of the end-of-season “finals,” and Vicario plays a key role in keeping Spurs in the Premier League, he may have saved himself from having to find a new club ahead of next season.
