Guimaraes and Shearer respond to Harvey Barnes’ Newcastle United future hint
Harvey Barnes has shared a nod towards his future at Newcastle United, capturing the attention of Bruno Guimaraes and Alan Shearer.
The 27-year-old winger has experienced a quick rise to success at St James’ Park, stopping Anthony Gordon from breaking back into Eddie Howe‘s lineup during the second half of the season.
He notched nine goals and four assists in 40 appearances, all of them coming in the Premier League, and his incredible form has seen other teams in the division sit up and take notice.
Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Barnes, but as per the Daily Mail, Howe is far from keen to lose him during the summer transfer window, even if Jacob Ramsey were to travel the opposite way.
It is no surprise to see the player linked with exits following a burst of goal contributions towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign, but Barnes may have addressed that in his new message to the supporters.
Harvey Barnes preparing for next season with Newcastle United
Taking to Instagram (2 June), Barnes wrote: “A week to reflect on a historic season for this amazing club, and one that’s going to always stick in the memory!
“Time for a chill before we do it all again next year,” with black and white heart emojis, with Bruno Guimaraes commenting two love heart emojis, and Alan Shearer liking the post.
The “next season” segment certainly leans towards the player wanting to stay at St James’ Park, but supporters will be waiting for the transfer window to close before breathing easy.
Eddie Howe to keep biggest stars at St James’ Park this summer
Football Insider verdict
While Barnes has been a key part of the Magpies’ charge for Champions League qualification, supporters will be undeniably more interested in the futures of various other stars at St James’ Park.
Alexander Isak is one of the most sought-after strikers across Europe, though Football Insider understands that Newcastle are growing in confidence of keeping the star this summer.
Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have also gained suitors during the 2024/25 campaign, with Tino Livramento, Nick Pope, Callum Wilson, and Gordon being linked with moves away.

Football Insider reported in March, however, that Newcastle will not entertain offers for Tonali, and Howe will only want to grow and develop the squad ahead of next season.
The Magpies have another shot at progressing further in the Champions League, having been knocked out of the group stages during the 2022/23 campaign, much to the disappointment of supporters.
Keeping the aforementioned stars will be vital to this achievement, but with huge transfer fees being mooted, some deals might be too difficult to turn down over the coming weeks.
