Arsenal increase bid for star and believe they have edge over PL rivals for enforcer - report

Arsenal are set for a double swoop as it has emerged the north Londoners are keen on bringing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Jonny Evans into the fold by the end of the transfer window, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror states that the Gunners are closing in on a deal for the Borussia Dortmund winger but will have to increase their initial offer, which was rejected by the Bundesliga side.
However, German media outlet, Bild, have suggested that the London outfit have increased their bid to £50.9m from £48.3m and Olivier Giroud would have to be thrown in as a makeshift in the deal.
As for West Brom defender Evans, the 30-year-old is also being chased by Manchester City, has 18-months left on his current deal and could be sold for a meagre £3m in the summer if he is not offloaded now.
he is rated at £20m by West Brom and Arsenal think they have the edge over Manchester City.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted his side is in need of reinforcements and the club is doing what it can to ensure signings are made. “Every opportunity we have to strengthen our squad, we’ll take,” the boss said in the Mirror.
Football Insider verdict:
There can be no doubting that Aubameyang needs to be brought in to lessen the blow felt in the aftermath of Alexis Sanchez’ departure to Manchester United but with Giroud needed to make this deal happen, the whole package could fall apart. Arsenal need to hold on to their lofty attacker who offers an alternative to the usual slick, ball along the ground style of play. The Gunners needs reinforcements at the back – as they have done for countless years – but £20m for 30-year-old looks a high price to pay and there are better options out there than the Northern Ireland international.
