Gunter is ‘best in the country for his age’ and will be a Tottenham sensation – expert

Tottenham fans should be “really excited” about Luca Gunter as he can be a future star for club and country.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Gunter, 16, signed a scholarship with Tottenham in the summer but only made his debut for the club’s Under 18 side last week after sustaining an injury on England duty at the beginning of the season.

The goalkeeper has represented England and Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 level.

He kept a clean sheet on his debut as Fulham held Spurs to a 0-0 draw.

Wenham believes Gunter has what it takes to be a future star for Tottenham and England after seeing him in action and claims he’s the best goalkeeper in the country for his age group.

“He’s finally made his long-awaited debut,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s had a very tough start the season after Tottenham offered him a scholarship.

“He then went away with England Under 16s as their first choice. He picked up a small knock then damaged his wrist.

“That’s why he hadn’t made an appearance this season. He is, for me, the best goalkeeper in the country for his age group.

“Hopefully he can be a future star for Tottenham. He made a host of really good saves in that first match.

“He can also be a future star for England. There looks to be a great understanding of the game in him and he has great distribution.

“I think he’s one Tottenham fans should be excited about. We haven’t had an academy goalkeeper come through since Ian Walker.”
