Celtic fans on social media are saddened that Patrick Roberts will leave the Hoops after two-and-a-half years to return to Manchester City.

The news was confirmed by Brendan Rodgers via the Hoops’ official Twitter account.

The attacker has been at the Hoops in two loan spells from the Premier League champions, and although fans are saddened that he is set to leave the club most fans are realistic about the player wanting to try and make it in England.

One supporter claimed that the Parkhead favourite was ‘far too good to sit on the bench’, after losing out to James Forrest for a starting place this season, but so good has Forrest’s form been that he has earned that place in the side.

Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to the news that Roberts is set to leave the Hoops:

Roberts had a hugely successful first loan spell the Hoops, and was instrumental in helping them clinch the unbeaten league season and domestic treble.

However, the aforementioned great form of Forrest and a hamstring injury which kept him out of action for almost four months have meant that the player has been nowhere as influential this season.

Despite this, we will surely go with best wishes from the club’s support after some superb performances for the Bhoys.
