‘Gutted’ – Morgan Rogers reacts to Jacob Ramsey’s message after heartache

Jacob Ramsey could be followed out of the Aston Villa exit door by Morgan Rogers after his first Newcastle appearance ended in heartache.

Ramsey‘s £40million move to Newcastle United was confirmed on 18 August and was met with a terse reaction from several Aston Villa players, unhappy with the PSR circumstances which forced his sale.

Aston Villa still aren’t in the clear as far as their PSR position goes though, and Unai Emery could be set to lose out on another key name as Premier League clubs line up big-money moves for Morgan Rogers.

Football Insider revealed on 25 August that Tottenham had opened preliminary talks over a deal to sign Rogers as the transfer window enters its final week, but Villa are standing firm on his £100m price tag.

Jacob Ramsey sends ‘proud’ message after ‘gutting’ debut

Ramsey’s controversial exit from Villa Park could be followed by a similarly unpopular, PSR-enforced departure for Ollie Watkins or Rogers before 1 September, with Emery forced to balance the books.

The 24-year-old was announced as a Newcastle player within hours of a 0-0 draw at Villa in their Premier League opener, and he came off the bench for his debut against Liverpool in a 3-2 defeat on Monday.

Newcastle’s last-ditch loss through a 100th-minute winner from Rio Ngumoha dampened Ramsey’s bow in black and white, as the winger posted on Instagram at full-time to announce himself to Magpies fans.

Ramsey said: “What an atmosphere!! Gutted with the way the game ended, thought we deserved more. But, personally, so proud to have made my debut. Looking forward to building on from last night.”

Several Newcastle players reacted to Ramsey’s post, and his ex-Villa team-mate Rogers added a ‘TOP’ emoji to show his own support.

Aston Villa may be powerless to prevent Morgan Rogers exit

Football Insider Verdict

Rogers, Watkins, Emiliano Martinez and Youri Tielemans have all been touted with moves away from Villa Park this summer, but the former’s price tag has been enough to ward off the likes of Chelsea so far.

However, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Tottenham have stepped up talks to sign Rogers with a massive profit on the cards for Villa, who signed him form Middlesbrough for £8million in 2024.

Spurs had sought Nico Paz and Rodrygo as potential alternatives to Rogers, but with Real Madrid putting the brakes on moves for either South American, it’s the Aston Villa man who now looks bound for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
