Hampden showdown may be final chance for some Rangers stars to prove they can cut it
Rangers go into Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final showdown with Celtic at Hampden as underdogs – but it may be the last chance for many at Ibrox to prove they can cut it for the Light Blues.
Too many of the Gers squad have under-performed this season and with a new manager likely next season, the Hampden clash with Celtic will be the ideal opportunity for them to earn their spot for next season.
Summer signings like Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso have been largely woeful while longer-serving players like Andy Halliday and Jason Holt have found themselves on the periphery of the first-team.
The Light Blues are almost certain to see a huge turnover of players in the summer and the chance to impress any watching new manager – or Graeme Murty should he get the long-term – will surely be at the back of every Rangers players’ mind as they take to the pitch.
There could be as many as 15 players who leave the Light Blues this summer and, while many won’t be involved against Celtic at Hampden, some of them will be part of the match-day squad and need to step their game up against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

After not seeing their side lift a major trophy in seven years, Gers fans are getting restless and another lacklustre performance in a game against Celtic could see the fans finally turn on the Light Blues.
In other Rangers news, Gers fans were blown away by this winger’s performance in the 4-0 win over Breidablik.
