Hardly-seen Tottenham star tipped to start tonight amid Reguilon claim - pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Ryan Sessegnon to start for Tottenham against NS Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker warned Sessegnon will find it difficult to oust Sergio Reguilon and become a regular starter.

The teenager replaced Reguilon for the final 10 minutes of Spurs’ 2-1 victory over Leeds United at the weekend.

It was his first appearance in the Premier League since January 2020 after spending last season on loan with Hoffenheim and suffering an injury earlier this season.

His last appearances for Spurs came when he started both Europa Conference League qualifiers against Paços de Ferreira in August.

As quoted by football.london (November 24) ahead of the game with Mura, Antonio Conte revealed he thought Sessegnon had “great potential” and is “ready to start”.

Asked whether he could force his way into Conte’s starting XI, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Reguilon has got that place, he scored against Leeds as well.

“I don’t see him starting ahead of Reguilon. He’ll have to make an impact off the bench, he won’t get in ahead of Reguilon.

“The Europa Conference League, definitely, could be an opportunity. He can come in and start in that competition to show what he can do.”

Reguilon’s winner against Leeds was his first for Tottenham since his £28million move from Real Madrid last summer.

Sessegnon has managed to make just 15 appearances across all competitions for the north London giants, including four starts in the Premier League.
