Harry Maguire may be set for new Man United role after confirmed news – pundit
Lisandro Martinez could line up alongside Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane in a back three for Man United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Martinez could line up on the left of a back three because he is good on the ball.
Man United confirmed last weekend (17 July) that they had reached an agreement in principle with Ajax for the 24-year-old.
The move is subject to a medical, personal terms being agreed and a work permit.
Sky Sports reported on Monday (18 July) that United have paid an initial £48.5million for Martinez but the deal could reach £57million with add-ons.
As quoted by the Daily Mirror earlier this week (19 July) Erik ten Hag confirmed Maguire was a first-choice player and also insisted Martinez was there to strengthen the team and not just the squad.
Asked who Martinez could partner at Old Trafford, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “You don’t know what he [Ten Hag] is going to play.
“He might play a three. Martinez, really good on the ball so he could fit in on the left side of a three.
“I think it’s a great signing and I think he’ll do really well for United.”

Maguire has been a success in a back three for England as they reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 European Championships that were delayed by a year.
His Man United career has been less successful but the 29-year-old has still racked up 143 appearances across all competitions.
In other news, a club has agreed in principle to sign a Man United 22-year-old who is on the pre-season tour.
