‘Harry Maguire named irreplaceable star at Man United in shock u-turn under Ruben Amorim’
Harry Maguire looks to have completed a stunning turnaround with Man United now viewing the centre-back as one of only four “irreplaceable” names.
It had been a difficult few years at Old Trafford for the England international, who had found himself way down the pecking order under previous manager Erik ten Hag, despite still being the world’s most expensive defender.
Indeed, West Ham were understood to have been close to signing Maguire back in the summer of 2023 though ultimately no move materialised.
Instead, the defender has remained with Man United, and under new boss Ruben Amorim has become a more regular feature in the Red Devils side, leading to a huge change in stance over the £80million [Sky Sports] former signing’s future.

Harry Maguire to be kept at Old Trafford
This season has seen the centre-back make some important contributions for Amorim’s side despite the overall disappointment of the campaign, albeit often as an emergency striker.
Maguire has scored some key goals for Man United, not least their dramatic last-minute winner in the Europa League quarter final against Lyon.
That seems to have led to the centre-back being viewed in a new light at Old Trafford, with an update from The Times stating that he is now one of just four players viewed as “irreplaceable” by the club.

Along with Maguire, the less-surprising trio of club captain Bruno Fernandes, wing-back Amad Diallo and fellow centre-half Leny Yoro, are the only other players who are viewed in that category by the Red Devils.
The news comes after Football Insider were recently told that Man United are planning to offer Maguire a new contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of next season.
The likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are names who the club would reportedly like to keep but are willing to sell for the right price.
Man United stance is a shock
Football Insider Verdict
When Maguire was struggling for game time under Ten Hag and being stripped of the captaincy in rather unceremonious circumstances, it seemed impossible to see a way back for him at the club.
That was particularly the case given how close he appeared to come to an exit from Man United amid that interest from elsewhere.

As a result, it is arguably a major surprise that he is even now back in the picture at Old Trafford at all, let alone being deemed “irreplaceable” by the club.
Indeed, while he has made some useful contributions this season, there aren’t many that would say he has been a standout performer, and he is still more than liable for some costly errors.
With that in mind, placing him within this category among the squad does seem to be something of an extreme reaction to the situation.
Some Man United fans may even wonder what this might indicate ahead of a summer transfer window in which it is clear they need to considerably strengthen the squad.
