Harvey Barnes reacts to Bruno Guimaraes’ startling confession after Celtic walloping
Newcastle players such as Harvey Barnes reacted to Bruno Guimaraes’ message to supporters after a heavy pre-season loss.
The Magpies returned to action for their first pre-season fixture but were demolished 4-0 by Celtic. Brendan Rodgers’ side struck twice in each half, comfortably seeing off a Newcastle team that looked off the pace.
One notable absence from the squad was Alexander Isak, who continues to be linked with a Newcastle exit. Addressing the rumours, Eddie Howe said: “I’d never give a guarantee about anybody [staying] because I’ve been in football long enough to know I could end up looking silly” [BBC Sport].
Meanwhile, Guimaraes started the match but was later substituted as Howe looked to rotate his squad. Despite the defeat and growing speculation around several players, the Brazilain remained defiant, posting a message to supporters following the final whistle.

Bruno Guimaraes sends motivated message after pre-season loss
Guimaraes made sure to speak directly to supporters following Newcastle’s heavy pre-season defeat to Celtic, expressing both determination and optimism for the season ahead.
The Brazilian shared images from the match on Instagram, and confessed the team is a long way off the level required.
He said: “5 days of training and still a lot to improve as a team for a great season! Happy to be back. Very motivated to have the best season possible.”
His message received strong support, with teammates such as Tino Livramento and Barnes engaging with the post, alongside Newcastle legend Alan Shearer who also showed his approval.
Guimaraes played a crucial role in Howe’s midfield last season during a campaign that saw the club lift the Carabao Cup and secure Champions League qualification.
Despite reported interest from Manchester City and Arsenal, the Brazilian’s future appears to be firmly rooted on Tyneside. His leadership on and off the pitch continues to make him a vital figure for the Magpies.
Last season also marked his most productive campaign in terms of goal contributions, as he recorded five goals and ten assists in all competitions.
Newcastle face decision over Harvey Barnes amid Aston Villa interest

While Barnes publicly supported Guimaraes following his motivational message, uncertainty remains over his own future at St James’ Park.
Football Insider revealed that Barnes could leave Newcastle this summer in search of more consistent first-team football.
Since joining from Leicester City, he has often found himself behind Anthony Gordon in the pecking order, with limited starting opportunities.
Aston Villa have identified Barnes as a potential target this summer, viewing him as a possible replacement for Marcus Rashford after his loan spell.
With Villa able to offer regular minutes, the move could be tempting for Barnes as he looks to reignite his Premier League career.
