‘Harvey Elliott to Nottingham Forest edges closer – what a move’

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott has emerged among the top targets for Nottingham Forest in case Morgan Gibbs-White leaves the club.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Forest could make the move using funds from Morgan Gibbs-White’s sale.

While the 22-year-old is not seen as an out-and-out replacement for Gibbs-White, his departure would open the door for Forest to bring in a new attack-minded midfielder.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Gibbs-White wants to join Man City and Forest may be powerless to keep him at the City Ground.

As a result, they have turned their attentions towards the transfer market in case they lose their star man ahead of next season’s European campaign.

Meanwhile, Football Insider exclusively revealed Forest have joined the race for Elliott alongside the likes of Wolves, Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Nottingham Forest to sign ‘unhappy’ Harvey Elliott from Liverpool

Brown told Football Insider that Elliott is not happy at Liverpool as a result of his lack of playing time since Arne Slot’s arrival last summer.

The former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that a move to Nottingham Forest could be ideal for both parties.

Harvey Elliott is a very talented player,” he told Football Insider.

“I think Forest would be a very good move for him and both parties would benefit from that.

“But if it’s a like-for-like replacement for Gibbs-White they want, they’ll have to look elsewhere.

“He’s not a box-to-box type player who’s going to be putting tackles in and then bringing the ball forwards to drag his team up the pitch.

“It’s not a case of: Gibbs-White is gone, let’s bring in somebody who does exactly what he does.

“You have to evaluate what he’s good at and what he would bring to the team compared to what they might be missing if Gibbs-White leaves.

“Then, if Elliott the one they want to go for, the money from his sale would allow them to make that move.

“I think Elliott would do well at Forest and he is one they’ve been looking at.

“He’s a very good footballer and he’s got a lot to give any team, so it’s no surprise there’s interest.”

Liam Delap deal lined up as Forest race Man United and Chelsea

Elliott is part of Forest’s ambitious plans for the summer, as they aim to compete with the Premier League’s top clubs to sign top-level players.

Football Insider revealed on 8 May that Forest want to sign Ipswich star Liam Delap to provide competition for Chris Wood next season.

The 22-year-old has a relegation clause in his Ipswich contract believed to be worth £30million, and is expected to make an instant return to the Premier League.

This comes after Football Insider first revealed in February that Man United and Chelsea want to sign Delap as a number of elite sides have been tracking his progress.
