Hasselbaink: This is what Tottenham ace must add to his game to be the best

By Harvey Byrne

Former Premier League striker and Sky Sports pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Dele Alli still has parts of his game he needs to add to before he can be considered the best.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has netted himself an incredible 15 goals as well as providing seven in 37 appearances in all competitions this season.

He is currently some distance away from surpassing Premier League great Frank Lampard’s best scoring season which saw him net 27 times and provide 18 in 51 encounters in 2010.

Lampard’s former teammate Hasselbaink also believes it is unfair to compare Alli to the England great, but he believes the young starlet has the potential to reach his level.

Additionally, he shared where Alli must add to, to ensure he reached that level with goals, determination, consistency and winning titles.

“Not fair on Alli, not fair, you’re talking about Frank Lampard here,” started Hasselbaink when asked on Sky Sports News’ Monday morning Premier League Daily show when asked how Alli compares to Lampard.

“He has got the potential, Alli has had the potential to get there, but he’s not there yet. But, he’s showing the signs of going into that direction.

“He needs more goals, determination and he has that, consistency and can he keep on doing this for five, six years, seven years? We all know what Frank has brought to the table. Can he keep on doing that? And also can he win things? Can he win a Champions League, can he win the Premier League?

“That’s all the things that Frank has done and he’s led his team to go and win those things.”

Alli has far surpassed expectations after making the switch from League One club MK Dons in the 2015 winter window.

After breaking into the team at the start of last season he has returned 25 goals and 18 assists in 83 appearances, while also being named last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year.

He is well on his way to being named for the award once more this campaign and with five years left on his current deal supporters will be hoping to see more from him for years to come.
