'He always hits the target': Craig Gordon delivers verdict on Celtic 26-year-old
By Matt Farr
Craig Gordon has backed Celtic team-mate Leigh Griffiths to fill the shoes of chief goalscorer Moussa Dembele.
Griffiths has seen his first team opportunities at Parkhead limited this season, due to the blistering goalscoring form of Dembele, who has 32 goals in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has managed only 10 starts in the Scottish Premiership serving as backup to Dembele, but with his team mate sidelined, he has an opportunity to make his mark.
Dembele limped off with a hamstring injury after just 34 minutes during the Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Rangers on Sunday, and the Scottish Sun claim the club are awaiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of his injury.
But Celtic goalkeeper Gordon is confident that Griffiths has the quality to pick up where Dembele left off and fire the club to the domestic treble.

He told the Scottish Sun: “He has been unlucky this season with a few injuries, but there is no doubting his quality.
“It was only last season that he scored 40 goals and he is a real threat. He always hits the target and he is a real handful.
“We have no problems in the striking department, that is for sure. He has waited for a chance and, hopefully, now we’ll see a hungry Leigh Griffiths until the end of the season.”
Despite his irregular first team opportunities, Griffiths has 14 goals to his name from 32 appearances in all competitions, coupled with 10 assists.
He has not started a game for Celtic since the 2-0 win over Ross County on December 28, but will be expected to lead the line for Brendan Rodgers’ side in Dembele’s absence in the coming weeks.
His stint at the heart of the attack could begin at Ibrox on Saturday, when Celtic take on Old Firm rivals Rangers for the sixth time in all competitions this season.
