'He got lucky' - Exclusive: Mills rips into 'Awkward' Spurs star who is a problem for Jose
Danny Mills has ripped into Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and says his poor performances are a “problem” for Jose Mourinho.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and Manchester City defender says that the Frenchman was hugely unconvincing in the club’s 3-2 win over Southampton in the FA Cup.
The 33-year-old, who returned in January from a lengthy injury absence, parried Nathan Redmond’s shot to Shane Long for the Saints’ first goal, before being beaten by Danny Ings for their second.
Mills, who was watching on in person on Wednesday night, says that Lloris looked unconvincing from start to finish and that his display should be a concern for the manager.
Asked about the Frenchman’s inconsistencies, Mills told Football Insider: “I think it’s a problem. I thought Lloris was shaky all night, he wasn’t convincing in the slightest.
“He’s come back quite quickly from that elbow injury which was horrific. He made saves where you’d expect him to make all the saves that he made but he just made them look a little bit awkward.

“For the first goal, where Redmond shoots, there’s not an awful lot of power in it, he needed to push it out a little bit further. He got lucky a couple of times in the first half, parrying shots that didn’t go anywhere. He wasn’t convincing in any way, shape or form.”
Lloris has now played the last four games for Spurs after his comeback, Paulo Gazzaniga dropping back to the bench after his run of games.
Tottenham’s next game is in over a week with a visit to Aston Villa after the Premier League’s winter break.
In other Tottenham news, Kevin Phillips says it is “huge” the club have agreed contract terms with an attacking talent.
