Kevin Phillips has claimed Tottenham have big plans for Troy Parrott as they put the finishing touches to a new long-term contract for him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the ex-England striker is in no doubt that Spurs value the teenage prodigy very highly.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the club have now agreed in principle the terms of a new contract with Parrott, who turned 18 this week, after pulling the plug on letting him leave on loan during the January window.
Parrott is an increasingly regular member of the Tottenham senior squad but was an unused substitute in their thrilling 3-2 FA Cup win against Southampton last night.
“Tottenham value his qualities and see him as a huge talent, they would not be ready to give him a new deal otherwise,” Phillips told Football Insider.
“The big thing for him is what happens to him from now until the end of the season. Will he get an opportunity? It will be tough.
“Moving forward for his career – does he go out on loan somewhere and start to develop as a player playing week-in week-out.
“That decision will be made in the summer. That will be the stipulation from Spurs, that he plays week-in week-out.”
Parrott, who is an orthodox centre-forward, has made two appearances for the Spurs first team, one apiece in the Premier League and FA Cup.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club are gearing up to offload a big Jose Mourinho favourite who started last night as talks planned.
