Chris Sutton has absolutely destroyed Aston Villa rebel Ross McCormack by stating “how thick can you get” regarding his excuse for not turning up to training.
Former Celtic striker Sutton labelled the 30-year-old rebel a “disgrace” after Steve Bruce revealed that McCormack failed to show up to training earlier in the week because of his faulty gates.
Bruce slammed the attitude of the Villa striker by revealing that the experienced striker has constantly missed training and is unfit to play.
As a result, McCormack was dropped for Villa’s 2-2 draw at home to Preston at the weekend as Bruce left him out of the matchday squad.
After the news of McCormack’s excuse was made public, former Premier League forward Sutton did not hold back on his criticism of the senior player.
“I don’t know what to say about this,” Sutton told the Monday Night Club on BBC Radio 5 live. “I mean how thick can you get? Just say you’re ill.
“I mean that is just incredible. I think Steve Bruce wants to get rid of him, he won’t because of his wages. This probably sums up why he hasn’t fulfilled his potential.
“It’s disgraceful, I feel sorry for Bruce and Aston Villa. He’s got to sort himself out.”
McCormack has struggled under the huge expectations of guiding Villa to instant promotion this season following his £12million summer move from Championship rivals Fulham.
He has been tasked as one of the key figures to lead the club back to the Premier League because of his goalscoring record in the second tier but instead, he has just managed three goals all season.
This has resulted in the Midlands side struggling for form and consistency during this campaign as they currently sit nine points off the play-off places.
McCormack last featured for his team during the defeat against Midlands rivals Wolves where he was utilised as a forward alongside Gabby Agbonlahor.
In other Aston Villa news, two medicals are due on Monday as the club are set for a £5million transfer blitz.
