Paul Robinson has tipped Mauricio Pochettino to try to sign out-of-favour Tottenham attacker Dele Alli if he returns to management.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed Pochettino “knows how to get the best” out of the 24-year-old.
Alli has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs this season and has failed to make the matchday squad for their last four Premier League fixtures.
Despite a brief spell after Pochettino was sacked 12 months ago, Alli has struggled under the management of Jose Mourinho.
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein claimed Pochettino is in no rush to get back into football but is keeping tabs on the situations at United, Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG.
When asked by Football Insider if he expected the Argentine to make a move to sign Alli at his next club, Robinson said: “Alli is clearly a player that Pochettino likes.
“They have a lot of respect for each other because we are comparing Dele Alli from the Pochettino era to the Dele Alli that is playing now.
“He is currently nowhere near the standards that he reached under Pochettino. Pochettino made Alli a focal point of the team. He was one of the first names on the team sheet.
“Dele’s form in the last 12 months has not been good enough but we do not know if it is down to his relationship with the manager.
“You certainly would not rule out Pochettino making a move for him if he was to get a new job in management. It is certainly a player that he likes and rates very highly.
“Mauricio Pochettino knows how to get the best out of Dele Alli.”
