West Brom boss

Darren Bent believes that Slaven Bilic “probably can’t believe” West Brom are closing in on the capture of Grady Diangana from West Ham.

The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests the Baggies did not expect to have a chance of re-signing the winger after his “superb” loan spell at the Hawthorns last season

As revealed by Football Insider, Diangana was set to have his medical on Friday after West Brom agreed to pay an initial £12million for the 22-year-old, although the deal could rise to £16million with performance-related add-ons.

The wide man scored eight goals and contributed a further seven assists for the Baggies last season as Bilic and his men secured automatic promotion from the Championship.

Bent believes that West Brom would have thought Diangana would be out of their reach this summer and that Bilic will be over the moon to have him back at the Hawthorns.

Bent told Football Insider: “Diangana for West Brom last season was absolutely superb.

“He (Bilic) probably can’t believe it, he probably didn’t expect to be able to get him but if they can, the fact that Slaven’s got him, he probably can’t believe his luck.”

Diangana has played a total of 21 times under his belt for West Ham after coming through the youth ranks in east London.

Of his 17 Premier League appearances to date, only six came in the starting XI.

In other West Brom news, it can be REVEALED the club are in advanced talks over a £16million-plus new signing.
