‘He will be a disaster’ – Newcastle told to pull the plug on striker signing
Newcastle United have been warned to steer clear of a disaster striker signing amid news that they have had bids rejected for Benjamin Sesko.
The Magpies are set to lose Alexander Isak to Liverpool, after the Sweden international made it clear he wants to leave the club.
Eddie Howe’s side have reportedly tabled a £70million bid for Sesko, but face competition from Manchester United to bring the striker to St James’ Park.
Newcastle have also been linked with Chelsea centre-forward Nicolas Jackson, who could move away from Stamford Bridge after the Blues brought in Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Jackson would be a “disaster” signing for the Tyneside club.

‘Newcastle have to go for Sesko’
This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Newcastle must go all out to sign Sesko, rather than opting for Jackson.
The Chelsea striker has flattered to deceive since his move to West London, often being criticised for his poor finishing and disciplinary record.
Wyness added that Jackson hasn’t got the right temperament or quality to lead the line for Newcastle.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he’d be a disaster. I’m pretty clear on that. I just don’t think Jackson has got it. I don’t think he’s the right quality of player for Newcastle.
“I don’t think his temperament’s right and I’m not a fan, as you can tell. I don’t think he’s the replacement. So if Isak goes, Sesko would be the one they’d have to go for. That’s my pretty clear view.”

Newcastle set to lose star
Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to “shatter” the British transfer record as they intensify their bid to sign Newcastle star Isak with a new mega offer.
Football Insider revealed on 28 July that the Reds are increasingly “confident” of signing Isak and are planning to lodge a new bid imminently.
Arne Slot’s side are willing to pay £120m plus add-ons to land the Sweden international and club-to-club talks continue behind the scenes at St James’ Park.
