'He will certainly be there next season'- Exclusive: Reaction as Spurs plot signing PL 27-yr-old

Kevin Phillips has claimed Nick Pope will be on the radar of multiple clubs this summer as he tipped Hugo Lloris to remain Tottenham No1 next season.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe Winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted the Burnley 27-year-old would not take the number one jersey off the club captain.

According to the Daily Star, the England international is attracting the interest of Chelsea and Spurs with the Londoners set to battle it out for his signature.

Pope has been ever-present for Burnley this campaign, keeping 11 clean sheets – and is on track to collect the Premier League Golden Glove currently held by Liverpool’s Alisson.

Phillips suggested Mourinho will be focusing on strengthening his squad elsewhere in the next transfer window.

“Lloris has had a couple of mistakes of late but he is still a top goalkeeper,” he told Football Insider.

“Would I take Nick Pope over Lloris? No.

“Big clubs, certainly Tottenham, you need to good spine of a team but I think the goalkeeper is not a major area Mourinho will look at. The keeper, he will certainly be there for another season.

“I do not think it will just be Spurs sniffing around him. It will not take a stupid fee to get him from Burnley though so it will be interesting to see what happens on that front.”

The France international, who has spent much of this campaign injured, has been criticised for his performances over the last two seasons.

Lloris arguably at fault for two of Red Bull Leipzig’s three goals as Spurs were knocked out of the Champions last month.

In other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson has told Football Insider Daniel Levy should sign PL striker who is ‘ideal replacement’ for Kane.
