Heckingbottom delivers confirmed Leeds status for Jansson for clash v Aston Villa

Pontus Jansson will not make the clash against Aston Villa on Friday night.

It had been hoped that he would recover from the head injury that took him off the pitch in the game against Preston.

However, talking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Villa, Heckingbottom confirmed that the centre-back wouldn’t play.

With some fans accusing him of feigning injury, Heckingbottom added that even if the player declared himself fit he wouldn’t be able to play because of the protocol surrounding head injuries.

Football Insider verdict:

This will be a big loss for Leeds. When Jansson went off against Preston Leeds had to rely on Under-23 players Paudie O’Connor and Hugo Diaz to hold the defence together. It’s one thing experimenting with youth and it’s another having to construct your first-team defence around them. Heckingbottom’s hands are tied here – the injury list that Leeds has got is growing seemingly on a daily basis. It’s frustrating for him and fans, although there will still be a certain element of the Elland Road faithful who think that Jansson just doesn’t have the bottle when the going gets tough.
