Heckingbottom drops major Leeds signings hint as he plans Elland Road transformation
Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has dropped a major hint that he will look to transform the squad in the summer transfer window.
Heckingbottom, 40, was hired by the Whites last week to succeed Thomas Christiansen in the Elland Road hotseat, and it seems that the former Barnsley boss already has his sights set on changing the squad.
The newly-appointed Whites man, who will take charge of his first home game against Bristol City on Sunday, has suggested that he may have to sign up new players after making his decision on the existing squad he inherited from Christiansen.
One point that Leeds fans may be happy about is that Heckingbottom is planning to use some of the young players already at the club after director of football Victor Orta has spent a lot of time and resources on improving the Under-23s squad since being appointed at Leeds in May last year.
“Any change you make you want to improve things,” he said on Friday, as quoted by LeedsLive in their live blog of his press conference at 01:05pm.
“I want to reward the characteristics I want to see – hard work, performances.
“All the decisions in the next window will be based around that.
“Young players here already, young players coming in or older players.
“We may have to bring players in to do that.”
Leeds have been very active in both transfer windows ever since Andrea Radrizzani gained full ownership of the Yorkshire giants.
After an overhaul in the summer, Christiansen was left with a team barely recognisable to the one that Garry Monk had led to seventh place in the Championship last season.
In January, Orta and Christiansen continued to sign players up with Laurens De Bock, Adam Forshaw and Tyler Roberts all arriving, as well as a spate of youngsters for the Under-23s.
In other Leeds United news, this Sky Sports pundit has claimed Radrizzani make a brutal below-the-belt remark after making a decision.
