Noel Whelan claims that Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori would be a “fantastic acquisition” for Everton ahead of the new Premier League season.
The former Leeds United and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggests the Blues’ versatile powerhouse could strengthen an already impressive backline at Goodison Park.
Sky Sports report that the 22-year-old is in talks to join the Toffees on a season-long loan deal after the club missed out on the capture of Gabriel Magalhaes to Arsenal.
Tomori, a graduate of Chelsea’s youth system, played 22 times across all competitions last season but featured just once in the Premier League during 2020.
Whelan believes that the one-cap England international would be another exciting addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad this summer.
Whelan told Football Insider: “They look very strong in that central area with the three signings that they’ve brought in, great signings plus Ancelotti’s bringing in his own players now, isn’t he?
“He’s getting the freedom of getting the players that he trusts, tried and tested at clubs that he’s already been at. It looks exciting at Everton.
“If they can get Tomori, a young, good centre-half stroke right-back, can play as a three, can play as a two, can play on the right-hand side. He’d be a fantastic acquisition to an already strong Everton side that probably didn’t do enough last year.
“If they can get this one over the line as well, they’ll be a very strong outfit this season.”
Tomori has already had three loan spells away from Stamford Bridge at Brighton, Hull City and Derby County.
Most of his club games have come in the Championship and he has just 16 Premier League appearances under his belt so far.
