Todd Cantwell would “jump at the chance” to join Leeds United and work with Marcelo Bielsa, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds United striker delivered his verdict as the Whites lodged a bid for the 22-year-old.
Cantwell enjoyed a breakout campaign in the Premier League last season where he scored six goals and provided two assists in 37 top-flight games.
Asked by Football Insider whether the England under-21 international would be an exciting signing for Leeds, Whelan said: “Yes, I think so.
“Again, he’s the right age that Marcelo Bielsa wants to develop and that’s what it is for him, it’s about developing players.
“Very rarely will he go for the already ready-made type of player – he wants to develop them and educate them.
“That’s what he’s been doing with everybody in the team, to be quite honest with you.
“The education he’s put into the individuals, telling them they need to do their jobs, he’s improved everybody.
“So I’m sure Cantwell would jump at the chance to come to Leeds and work with him and play with the players that are there.
“The style of play he would suit down to the ground, there’s absolutely no doubt about that.
“He’s got energy, he’s got vision, he’s creative and there’s definitely more to come because of the age that he’s at.
“If that can get done and across the line then we’ve got that other player there, that number 10 that can do something different and is exciting.”
