Aberdeen attacker Scott Wright “will be desperate” to join Rangers before the transfer deadline next week, according to Kevin Phillips.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner suggested the 23-year-old will be pushing to move to Ibrox this month, rather than on a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer.

Steven Gerrard has admitted that the Light Blues are working on on a pre-contract agreement with Wright.

Football Insider understands that it is one of many pre-contract agreements the Glasgow giants are working on in this window.

It is possible that Wright’s transfer could be fast-tracked in a deal which would see the winger join the runaway league leaders for the second-half of the season.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest transfer developments, Phillips said: “Wright will desperate to join to Rangers and anybody in his position would.

“You want to get on board as soon as possible, and you just hope is is before that deadline so you can be a part of something special. He will definitely will be hoping.

“There are a lot of players in Scotland and in England that would love to be a part of that squad as they look very likely to win the title. It is just a shame there is no supporters there.

“Any players linked with the club right now would like to move before the window shuts. I am sure it will get done.”
