He'll take burden off Ryan Kent - Exclusive: Hutton Wowed as Rangers work on pre-contract deal

Alan Hutton has been left raving as Rangers prepare a deal to sign QPR winger Bright Osayi-Samuel on a pre-contract deal in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers defender and boyhood fan of the club believes the Championship ace is exactly the sort of player Steven Gerrard needs to boost his side’s cutting edge.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Gers have registered their interest in signing the 22-year-old on a pre-contract deal in January and are putting a package together to lure him to Ibrox.

The former Blackpool man is out of contract next summer which will allow Rangers to take advantage of cross-border rules and agree contract terms ahead of a summer switch.

Hutton believes that Gerrard faces fierce competition for the QPR star but insists he would be a fantastic addition if they can get him on board.

Hutton told Football Insider: “They seem to kind of find all these players, don’t they, in the last year of their contract.

“A guy with good numbers last season, he’s obviously a great talent, I think there will be other teams looking at him, to be honest, I don’t think Rangers will be the only ones but they’re definitely looking for that type of player that unlocks defences, can score a goal, can assist.

“I do think they need other options, I do think they rely quite heavily on the likes of Hagi and Kent – Kent for me is way out in front, I think we need more from Hagi.

“I think that’s where they’re looking for a little bit of competition, in those type of areas, and these are players that are definitely going to improve the squad.”

Osayi-Samuel scored six goals and contributed nine assists across all competitions for the Hoops last season.

He has a total of 89 Championship games under his belt and has played the full 90 minutes in both of QPR’s games this season.

In other Rangers news, Alan Hutton has revealed he expects a senior star to be out for “many weeks” after Ibrox visit.
