Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn will make a big impression in the Premier League next season as he looks to follow the Andy Robertson blueprint for success, according to Jackie McNamara.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Celtic and Scotland legend is convinced the central midfielder can shine in the Premier League after an outstanding campaign in the Championship following his move south of the border.
McGinn joined Villa from Hibernian for around £3million last summer after they beat boyhood club Celtic to his signature.
McNamara is impressed by what he saw of the 24-year-old in claret-and-blue as he played an instrumental role in their promotion back to the top flight.
“I think they look a good side, I’m delighted that John McGinn has done well,” McNamara told Football Insider. “He’s looked the part as one of the best players in the midfield in that league last year.
“I think it’s good for Scottish players, you know someone like Andy (Robertson), going down there (to England) and doing very well so I think it’s good for up here.
“I think McGinn will do well in the Premier League. He’s got no fear, he gets in and about, he’s a strong runner, great energy. You see him closing people down and a lot of teams don’t like that and he’ll do really well.”
McGinn made 48 appearances for Villa last season, scoring some wonder strikes among his nine goals as well as providing 12 assists.
He has also accumulated 14 Scotland appearances and is expected to make the starting XI under Steve Clarke for the Euro 2020 qualifiers this month.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the Midlands giants are plotting a swoop to sign a newly-available Chelsea 25-year-old.
