Fans have been left baffled by Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth’s links to a move to Man United.
The 52-year-old is reportedly closing in on a potential move to Old Trafford with incoming investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe eager to appoint him to replace of current chief John Murtough. Football Insider understands third-party talks have indeed taken place behind the scenes.
Ashworth moved to the riches of St James’ Park in February last year after his successful three-year spell at Brighton where he grew his reputation as a shrewd talent spotter.
Man United have had significant recruitment issues, including spending big fees on underperforming talents like Antony and Jadon Sancho, but Ratcliffe is keen to right these wrongs after his £1.25billion investment is completed.
Fans are amazed that such a highly regarded director like Ashworth would consider moving to United amid their struggles on and off the pitch.
