‘He’s on his way’ – Man City fans react to journalist’s ‘huge’ James Trafford update

Man City fans reacted in unison and urged the club to re-sign James Trafford following an update on his future.

It’s been a busy summer at the Etihad, with City confirming the arrivals of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders as part of their ongoing squad reshuffle.

But with several moving parts still in play, the focus now appears to be shifting towards the goalkeeping department.

Football Insider revealed Ederson is expected to leave Man City, with a move to Galatasaray gathering momentum in recent days. His potential exit would mark the end of a hugely successful spell in Manchester, and City are already exploring replacements.

While Porto’s Diogo Costa has been identified as a previous target for Man City, there is growing suggestion that the club may prefer to bring back a familiar face.

That has led to a wave of support from fans, who are calling for the return of Trafford, after a report about their pursuit of the academy graduate.

James Trafford agrees return to Man City amid Burnley talks

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X on 20 July that Trafford has already “accepted to return” to City, after the club began progressing on a move earlier in the week.

He also reported that the Cityzens are currently “in talks” with Burnley in an attempt to reduce the £40million asking price for the goalkeeper.

Newcastle have held long-standing interest in Trafford, but Burnley’s valuation — combined with City’s involvement — appears to have turned the tide in favour of a return to the Etihad.

Man City currently have a £40m buy-back clause for Trafford, which is likely a key factor in Burnley’s stance, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can reach an agreement in the coming days.

It’s no surprise the former academy product has caught the eye of the City hierarchy after an outstanding campaign. He kept a record-breaking 29 clean sheets for Burnley last season as Scott Parker’s side earned automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Man City to beat Newcastle competition for James Trafford

Football Insider previously reported that Newcastle had seen bids for Trafford turned down, with the club viewing him as a long-term successor to Nick Pope.

However, it’s a situation the Magpies have faced throughout the summer — targeting a player, only to see another club swoop in and beat them to the signing.

Meanwhile, Man City fans appear ready to part ways with Ederson, following reports that the Brazilian is open to a new challenge and is in advanced talks over a move to Galatasaray.

With Trafford possibly returning to Manchester, excitement is building among supporters, who see him as a perfect fit to step into the number-one shirt.

One fan posted: “Let’s break the bank” while another added: “He is really a perfect replacement of Ederson.”
