‘Hilarious to watch’ – Wolves fans react to ‘astonishing’ new Vitor Pereira to Nottingham Forest development

Wolves fans are shocked that Nottingham Forest look set to imminently appoint their former manager, Vitor Pereira, as Sean Dyche’s successor.

Pereira was hired by Wolves in December 2024 after Gary O’Neil’s sacking, with the club in the bottom three, and he led them to a well-improved second half of the season and an eventual 16th-placed finish.

Wolves handed Pereira a new three-year contract in September despite a poor start to the new term, but he was sacked in November after they failed to win any of their first 10 league matches.

The 57-year-old has been out of work ever since, but has been installed as the frontrunner to take over at the City Ground following Dyche’s dismissal on Wednesday night.

He was sacked in the hours that followed a 0-0 draw with Wolves, who are all but relegated from the Premier League already, and a strange twist of fate could see Pereira now replace him in charge of the Reds.

Wolves fans cannot believe that Vitor Pereira is set to be Forest’s next manager

The draw against Wolves left Forest sitting 17th in the Premier League, only three points ahead of West Ham in the relegation zone, and so owner Evangelos Marinakis saw fit to pull the trigger for the third time this season.

Sky Sports have now reported that Pereira has agreed to take charge of Forest, and while final details still need to be agreed, it is “almost certain” that he becomes Dyche’s successor soon.

This has shocked and confused Wolves fans after a tough end to his spell at Molineux earlier in the season, with one fan taking to X to say: “Vitor Pereira potentially getting another Premier League job the same season he pretty much decimated one PL club is an astonishing turn of events. This Marinakis unravelling is hilarious to watch.

Another said: “VP (Pereira) shouldn’t even get a League 1 job, never mind a prem (Premier League) job, after what he’s done to us.”

While one fan added: “Vitor Pereira destroyed this club (when) recruitment was handed solely to him. He will kill your club.”

What is Pereira’s record in the Premier League like compared to Dyche?

Dyche has, of course, managed a lot more Premier League games than his potential successor, but fans will be quick to compare the pair, especially given how quickly the hiring process seems to have happened.

The Englishman has overseen 350 top-flight matches over the last 12 years, with 99 wins, 95 draws and 156 losses to pick up 392 points at a per-game average of 1.12.

Pereira, meanwhile, has taken charge of 32 Premier League games up to now, with 10 wins, five draws and 17 losses to pick up 35 points at a per-game average of 1.09.
