‘Hope this sign is better’ – Dom Solanke deletes Tottenham cartoon after Hong Kong mishap
Dominic Solanke has uploaded a new Tottenham illustration after making a linguistic mistake as his club arrives in Hong Kong.
Switching the south coast for north London, the striker had a mixed campaign during his debut season for Tottenham.
After amassing 19 league goals for Bournemouth in 2023-24, the Englishman failed to make the same impact for the Lilywhites after making his big money move.
During an injury-hit season, Solanke found the back of the net nine times in the Premier League.
Yet, he found his feet in Spurs’ Europa League winning run, finishing as the tournament’s top goal scorer, bagging five times as the club ended their 17-year wait for a trophy.

Turning his attention to the new campaign under ex-Brentford manager Thomas Frank, the 27-year-old will want to hit the ground running to impress the new boss.
The number 19, along with his teammates have arrived in Hong Kong as their pre-season tour continues.
Solanke’s social media mix-up
Taking to Instagram stories (28 July), the striker republished a previously deleted Instagram post with the caption: “Touchdown Hong Kong! (Hope this sign is better)”
The former Liverpool forward altered the original cartoon, changing the Cantonese text on the board he held in the illustration.
His story also included a laughing face and pray emoji, suggesting he made an error with the text which was quickly rectified.

Time for Solanke to get serious
Football Insider verdict
Whilst morale appears to be high during pre-season for Solanke and Spurs, the squad needs to be focused after a dreadful domestic campaign last year.
Claiming the Europa League trophy brought some much needed joy to White Hart Lane, but now with Champions League football, the Lilywhites must perform better.
For the 27-year-old, he’ll be looking to rediscover his final Bournemouth season form, especially with the 2026 World Cup fast approaching.
Although he has been selected by Thomas Tuchel for the March internationals, Solanke failed to make his presence known as he was rooted to the bench.
His senior England career has been underwhelming, making just two appearances, playing only 33 minutes.
The striker also wasn’t selected for the May internationals with ex-Brentford forward Ivan Toney chosen in his place.
This implies that the Englishman is not necessarily in the German’s plans and will need to have an outstanding season to make it on the plane to North America.
Tottenham record goal scorer Harry Kane is a guarantee to lead the attacking line at the World Cup, but who makes up the other striking slots remains to be seen.
