‘Horrendous’ Fernandes lambasted by pundit after ‘awful’ Man United display
Noel Whelan has slammed Bruno Fernandes as one of the worst performers for Manchester United after some “awful” displays.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has insisted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men “play as individuals” rather than as a team.
Fernandes, 27, kept up his record of starting every league game this season in Saturday’s away trip to Watford and played the full 90 minutes as his side slumped to a calamitous 4-1 defeat.
The Red Devils visited Vicarage Road off the back of three defeats in their last four Premier League matches.
Whelan admitted the United stars look like they are playing for themselves at times.
He insisted Fernandes has been one of the biggest culprits.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Fernandes has gone off the boil. He was one of their main players but has been horrendous recently.
“It looks awful at times when you’re watching Manchester United.
They need to find the hard work. Some of them are banging into each other in defensive areas. They just need that education of how to play as a team.
“When you’re talking about a team, you’re looking at the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City. Watch the way they play. They play as a team.
“Man United play as individuals. The last couple of games, I don’t think they’ve had a clue what they’re doing, quite frankly. They looked all over the place.

“They need to have a structure, they need to have an identity and they haven’t got one. That’s the issue. That’s why teams like Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea find it easy to play against them.
“They play with telepathic football at times, they know what they’re doing in all the zones. They work as a team on and off the ball.”
