'Huge' - Exclusive: Top pundit reacts to Leeds holding talks over £100,000-a-wk deal
Alan Hutton insists signing Marcelo Bielsa to a new long-term contract will be “huge” for Leeds United.
The former Aston Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims that the Argentine boss is worth every single penny the Whites spend on tying him down after two seasons at Elland Road.
The Argentine is currently on £60,000-a-week, the highest manager’s wage in the Championship, but, despite having an option to extend his contract on the current terms, the Whites board want to reward him for his success this season.
Hutton admits it is a hefty wage for the Whites to splash out on but insists Bielsa is well-deserving of it after getting Leeds back to the Premier League.
Hutton told Football Insider: “It’ll be huge, he’s already the highest-paid Championship manager so to go into the Premier League, which they deserve to be there, it’s all been under him, the good work.

“I think it’s been well documented with how meticulous he is with looking at other teams, players and stats and he’s really 24/7 in terms of the managerial side of it.
“He really puts in the hard work so it’s a lot of money but he is the captain of the ship, he is the one that’s led them there and he deserves to be in charge so it doesn’t surprise me they’re offering him a new deal.”
Bielsa replaced former boss Paul Heckingbottom back in 2018 after the Whites finished 13th in the Championship.
The Argentine helped Leeds finish third in his first season in charge before winning the second-tier title with two games left to spare this term.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that a £5million bid has been accepted for an Elland Road target.
