‘Huge’ – Keith Wyness drops verdict on Ange Postecoglou agreeing sensational Celtic return
Ange Postecoglou has been warned against sensationally returning to Celtic for what would be a second spell as manager of the club.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks Postecoglou should look elsewhere for his next opportunity.
Postecoglou has been named as a candidate for the Celtic job when interim manager Martin O’Neill steps down at the end of the season.
The Australian enjoyed a successful two-year spell at Celtic before being appointed Tottenham manager in 2023, and has been out of work since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in October.
Ange Postecoglou could make ‘big mistake’
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Postecoglou may also not be in favour of O’Neill becoming a director of football at Celtic.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness can’t see the 60-year-old moving back to Glasgow.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s not going to happen. I think it would be a huge mistake for Ange to come back.
“I still believe that there’s got to be something more about the evolution with the squad they’ve got right now in terms of the management team they’ve got right now. I’ve always said that, you know, Martin O’Neill could go back up director of football and I don’t think an Ange Postecoglou would like that sort of situation and I think it would be a huge mistake for him.
“A lot of the fans are still unhappy about the way he left, don’t forget, and I think it would be very difficult for him to come back. I know Brendan came back, but I don’t think Ange is the right type of character. I think he’s got to go and cast his net elsewhere.
“I think his time in Scottish football helped him, but I don’t think it would be good for him to come back. And so I think it is just clutching at straws right now in terms of stories. So I don’t see Ange coming back, and it would be a big mistake if he did.”

Steve Clarke in frame for Celtic vacancy
Scotland manager Steve Clarke could be the next manager of Celtic, with the 62-year-old a strong candidate for the job.
Clarke has previously managed in the Scottish Premiership with Kilmarnock and has led Scotland to the World Cup this summer.
Clarke’s contract expires after the World Cup, and he has yet to decide whether to stay on with the national team or explore an opportunity elsewhere.
