Simone Zaza’s agent and father Antonio Zaza has bizarrely claimed that the British weather was a huge reason as to why the striker became a West Ham flop.
The 26-year-old Italy international moved to the London Stadium on loan from Juventus for the first half of last season before the deal was cut short in January after he failed to score in 11 appearances for the Hammers.
It was a poor start to the campaign all round by West Ham, but Zaza found himself to be at the centre of criticism from fans and pundits for his futile displays in attack.
Before long, Slaven Bilic took the decision to axe him from his regular starting line-up before a knee injury saw his spell in London end on a dire note.
Antonio Zaza has also pointed the finger at Bilic for his son not performing in England, while admitting that it was an error for him to join West Ham in the first place.
“It was a huge mistake. Simone was still concerned by the penalty he missed with Italy at the time and he fail to settle in well in London. He was not happy with the weather and with the formation of his ex boss. Moving to Spain was the best ever decision for him,” the agent said to Calciomercato.
Simone Zaza moved to Valencia on loan after his deal at West Ham was terminated and his form did show signs of improvement before he made him temporary stay in Spain permanent in the summer.
This season, the Italian striker has been in sensational form, scoring six goals in seven La Liga appearances, including a hat-trick against Malaga in a 5-0 hammering.
