Hull City vs Chelsea FA Cup postponement latest as Met Office release weather warning

Chelsea’s trip to take on Hull City in the FA Cup on Friday is in doubt after the Met Office released a fresh weather warning.

The Blues will be looking to bounce back after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Leeds United at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer had put the home side well ahead, but Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor scored in the second half to equalise.

Chelsea beat Charlton Athletic 5-1 to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup last month, in what was Liam Rosenior‘s first game in charge.

Rosenior was appointed to replace Enzo Maresca, and the Englishman has led his side to seven wins from 10 games across all competitions.

Hull will be hoping to cause an upset when they welcome Chelsea to MKM Stadium on Friday.

The Tigers secured their own progression to the fourth round of the FA Cup when they beat Blackburn Rovers on penalties in January, and they will hope to continue their run.

The last time their FA Cup journey got to the fifth round, it was ended at the hands of Chelsea in 2018.

Rosenior was actually playing when they last made it to the final, against Arsenal in 2014, when, despite going 2-0 up, it was heartbreak for Steve Bruce‘s side.

The Chelsea manager would go on to take charge at Hull between 2022 and 2024, but he will now be returning in the away dugout.

But officials will be paying close attention to the skies before any game can take place, after the Met Office released a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in the surrounding area.

The area of impact is currently expected to fall just shy of Hull, but the situation may well progress in the coming hours.

What Liam Rosenior has said about Hull City

Rosenior joined Hull on a free transfer in 2010 and spent five years at the club, making 161 appearances.

His departure in 2015 would see him spend the last few years of his playing career with Brighton, before he returned to the Tigers as a manager in 2022.

Rosenior led Hull to a seventh-placed finish in the Championship, but he was ultimately dismissed over differences in opinion with the ownership.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s clash, he said: “For me, Hull City is very special. My grandma was a season ticket-holder. I’ve got my family coming up. The club means a lot to me for many reasons.”
