Hutton cites Grealish in 'very exciting' Aston Villa transfer verdict after talks reveal
Alan Hutton has suggested Philippe Coutinho could help fill the void left by Jack Grealish at Aston Villa.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Steven Gerrard would know exactly how to get the best out of the 29-year-old after their time together at Liverpool.
Speaking to Villa TV on Tuesday (11 January), Coutinho revealed he had “spoke a lot” with Gerrard about his plans and ambitions at Villa Park.
Hutton admitted he could not believe the Villans had managed to pull off the loan-to-buy capture of the Brazil international.
He suggested Gerrard’s management would get Coutinho back up to his best form.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t think anybody saw this coming. It just shows you the power that Steven’s Gerrard got in the footballing world to be able to attract him.

“We know that he’s worked alongside him, he knows what kind of character he is and what he brings to the table. I think that played a massive part in him coming to Aston Villa.
“If there’s anybody that can put an arm around him and get the best out of him, it will be Steven Gerrard. So it’s very exciting times.
“Since Jack Grealish left, and I don’t really like speaking about it too much, I think they’ve missed something.
“He’s something special, something different off the cuff. I think this signing could provide that spark.”
Coutinho played 16 times for Barcelona during the first half of the season, with two goals to his name.
He has 152 games of Premier League experience under his belt from his time at Liverpool.
