Hutton: This is what worries me about Fonseca after Tottenham update via Romano
Alan Hutton has raised concerns over Paulo Fonseca’s record against top clubs ahead of his prospective Tottenham appointment.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 48-year-old had seriously struggled at Roma during the 2020/21 campaign.
As reported by reputable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Monday (14th June), Fonseca is expected to sign a deal to become Spurs’ new manager by Wednesday after being given the green light by Daniel Levy.

New director of football Fabio Paratici is said to have been the driving force behind the Portuguese manager’s prospective appointment.
Roma finished seventh in Serie A under Fonseca, 29 points behind champions Inter Milan.
Hutton admitted he had doubts over how the prospective new boss would fare in England.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “If you look into him, he did get to the semi-finals of the Europa League.
“However, Roma brought him in to do a job and get them back to the top.
“I think it was a fifth-place finish and a seventh-place finish. He really struggled.
“The worrying thing is he struggled against top teams in Serie A.
“If you come to England, it’s kind of the same situation where Roma and Tottenham are in the league.
“That’s where Tottenham have been for a long time. It’s about making this decision, where do you want to be?
“Do you want to be top four or do you want to be under that?”
Roma finished behind Inter, AC Milan, Atalanta, Juventus, Napoli and Lazio in Serie A last season.
They managed to pick up just one win – a 2-0 victory over Lazio – against any of those six clubs in the league.
