Hutton tells Traore 'you won't play' as Aston Villa January transfer plan revealed
Alan Hutton has suggested Steven Gerrard has already seen enough of Bertrand Traore to know he does not have a future at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Holte End favourite admitted the 26-year-old has “not lived up to expectations” at Villa Park.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (23rd November), Villa will listen to offers for Traore this summer after Gerrard gave the green light.
The new Villa boss believes he has inherited an unbalanced squad with too many wide players.
Hutton insisted Traore’s lack of consistency had let him down during his time at Villa Park.
“I think that’s what it is, not living up to the expectations,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“We all can see that he’s a good player. He’s technically very good, he’s got good pace. It’s like when I spoke to you about El Ghazi. I know how good a player he is, I want to see it more.
“I know it can be difficult for wingers, they kind of drop in and out of games. If you look at Steven Gerrard at Rangers or what he’ll be like at Aston Villa, if you want to play you need to be consistent.
“You need to be consistently playing at a high level. He’s probably seen him and thought there’s real inconsistency there. He needs more.
“That’s probably why he’s made that decision with Traore. You won’t play.”
Traore has scored eight goals and contributed seven assists in 43 appearances since joining from Lyon in 2020.
He has not started in the league this season and was left out of Gerrard’s first matchday squad.
