Hutton shares El Ghazi training ground reveal as Aston Villa exit edges closer
Alan Hutton has urged Anwar El Ghazi to stay and fight for his place at Aston Villa amid interest from Roma.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted his old teammate could be “unplayable” but admitted he had struggled for consistency.
As revealed by Football Insider on Sunday (July 25th), Roma have launched a bid to sign the 26-year-old, with Dean Smith ready to listen to offers.
A Villa source has since told this site the club are expected to cash in if their £15million valuation is met.
Hutton revealed El Ghazi was a “nightmare” on the training ground but had struggled to replicate that on matchday.
However, he insisted he wanted the Dutch star to stay and prove his worth at Villa Park.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You can’t take it away from him. He has stepped up in some big moments and scored some really important goals.
“For me, he was an absolute nightmare to mark in training. When he was on it, he was absolutely unbelievable, he was unplayable at times.
“I just think you want to see it more often and I know it’s easier said than done. It’s easy for me to sit here and say that about him, but it’s true.
“I know what he’s got, what he’s capable of, that I want to see it more often.
“It’s the thing about wingers, they can be inconsistent. That’s the problem.
“I want to see him stay, fight for his place and show that level I know he can show.“
Hutton played 19 times alongside El Ghazi during the 2018/19 campaign.
The Netherlands international has scored 23 times in 107 appearances for the Villans.
