Hutton: This is where 'big man' Lundstram will play for Rangers
Alan Hutton has insisted John Lundstram’s “big physical presence” means he will thrive for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers and Scotland defender claimed the midfielder still needs to add goals and assists to his game.
The Ibrox giants confirmed Lundstram has signed a three-year deal with the club after he left Sheffield United.
The 27-year-old scored five times and provided three assists in the 2019-20 campaign as the Blades finished ninth in the Premier League.
However, he did not find the net in the league last term and provided just two assists.
“I think he can be that number eight, that box-to-box midfielder,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“He’s very physical, he’s a big presence in there. You need that in the Scottish game, he can definitely handle himself.
“If you look at his goals and assists, it might not be where you want it to be for a midfielder getting into the box. You want him to contribute at the end of the pitch. That’s something he can improve on and learn about from Steven Gerrard, those late runs and shots on goal. I expect improvement in that area.
“But he’s not there just to be back up. He’s there to enhance the squad, he’s there to push them on and make them better.
“As a player, a midfielder, if you see that standard of player come in it’s going to make you better. Simple as that.
“They’re not standing still, they’re trying to push forward and this is the intent of Rangers.”
