Henshall was confirmed as the Villans’ new head of emerging talent on Tuesday morning.
A former analyst at Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday, he played a key role in Doncaster’s recruitment plans.
As such, Hutton suggested Henshall would bring valuable knowledge of the lower leagues to Villa Park.
Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I think that’s an important appointment. It’s not all about the first-team.
“He was at Doncaster so there’s a guy who’s been around the lower leagues. He’ll know the gems that are round about that level who can step up.
“I think it shows you what Aston Villa and Johan Lange are doing moving forward. They’re trying to progress all levels at the training ground.
“Whether it be the youngsters or the first-team, they’re doing it in the right way.
“They’re building for the future and bringing in all these experienced people from their own level and their own right. I like what they’re doing. I just think that trying to progress at every level.
“Ultimately, in the long run, it’s only going to be good for Villa. When all these people bed in, they bring in all the people that they want, hopefully, it only goes one way and that’s up.”
