Hutton: Tottenham have ‘massive problem’ as Mason shares update on player talks
Alan Hutton has admitted he fears Tottenham could be playing catch up to the rest of the Premier League next season.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Lilywhites could not make crucial plans until a new manager is appointed.
As quoted by the Evening Standard, Ryan Mason confirmed talks over players’ futures would likely not take place until the summer.
As revealed by Football Insider, Spurs are willing to sell Davinson Sanchez this summer, while other Spurs stars are in demand.
It is understood Manchester United are plotting a huge bid for Harry Kane and Real Madrid have made an approach for Tanguy Ndombele.
Hutton has admitted he is seriously concerned for Tottenham if they are to leave their planning until pre-season.
Asked if Spurs had a problem ahead of the summer, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Massively. That’s exactly what it is.
“If you look at any club at the moment, they’ve already got their plans in place. Whether it be pre-season, areas that they’re targeting to strengthen, players that they want out. They’ve got all that down already.
“Tottenham have got nothing. Players going to Ryan Mason or Daniel Levy or whoever: ‘What’s happening with my contract? Am I signing a new one? What’s going on, what direction are we going in?’ There are no answers.
“All these boys are going to go away to the Euros or whatever. They’ll come back and not know what is going on with the club.
“That is not a situation that you really want, especially when they see themselves as one of their big six.
“Whoever comes in is going to have to evaluate the squad and see who he wants. The season is going to start before you know it.
“It comes around really quickly. They’re going to have to sort this situation out ASAP. Otherwise, they’re going to be left in the back starting the season.”
Mason took over as interim boss following Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month.
He suffered his first league defeat in charge last weekend with a 3-1 loss away at Leeds United.
