Hutton verdict on £40m offer for Aston Villa star Martinez

Aston Villa could double their money by selling Emiliano Martinez summer, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Holte End favourite, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted it would take a “ridiculous” offer for Villans to cash in on the 28-year-old.

As revealed by Football Insider, the goalkeeper is top of Manchester United’s shopping list ahead of the summer window.

A Villa source has told this site the club are expecting strong interest in the Argentine shot-stopper, with indications a “monster” bid will be tabled.

Martinez joined the Villans for an initial £17million rising to £20million in add-ons from Arsenal last summer.

He has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League with 14 clean sheets in 30 top-flight appearances.

Hutton admitted if Villa wanted to, they could bank at least £40million for the keeper’s sale.

However, he questioned if a team like Manchester United would be willing to spend that much.

“Double your money, easily,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“If we’re talking £20million, are we then talking £40million here? Would Manchester United want to spend that sort of money when they’ve got Dean Henderson there? I don’t think so.”

“Personally, I can’t see him moving in the summer unless there’s a ridiculous offer you can’t turn down.

“I mean that’s us talking about something totally different. If an offer comes in that’s crazy money then of course he probably would leave but out with that, I don’t think he would.”

Martinez had played just 15 Premier League games before joining Villa and made just 38 appearances for Arsenal in 10 years.

In other news, Hutton worried Jack Grealish’s injury blow is worse than initially feared at Aston Villa.
