Football Insider names Tottenham’s flop of the year for 2016.
Spurs summer signing Vincent Janssen has been the club’s flop of the year, beating the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Clinton N’Jie.
Much criticism has been aired towards Sissoko after the Frenchman has failed to deliver since signing on a £30million deal from Newcastle.
However, Janssen joined for just £13million less at £17million from AZ Alkmaar and he has so far delivered a lot less than Sissoko.
The striker moved to Tottenham as a full Netherlands international and there was much excitement for the player.
Last season saw him named the the Eredivisie top scorer with a stunning 27 goals in 34 appearances, while he was also named the Dutch Talent of the Year.
But, so far for Spurs he has scored just three penalty goals in 20 fixtures for the Premier League side.
Now Janssen wasn’t exactly expecting to take Harry Kane’s spot from him in the summer, but there was hope that he would at least add some competition.
However, when the Englishman suffered an ankle injury earlier in the campaign which forced him to the sidelines Janssen failed to take his chance.
The only thing he has so far been praised for is his overall play, but for a striker that can sometimes go against you.
As a whole, Janssen was signed in the summer with many expecting him to be the player to finally take all of the pressure off Kane’s shoulders.
But, he has so far delivered nothing to the team and that’s why he is Spurs’ biggest flop of the calendar year.
In other Tottenham news, Robbie Savage has claimed this Spurs target would be perfect for the club.
