'I don't understand' - Exclusive: Danny Mills flummoxed after Corberan player update

Danny Mills admits he is baffled after Leeds United coach Carlos Corberan delivered an update on new arrival Jean-Kevin Augustin.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and England defender says that he does not understand why the Frenchman was given just 45 minutes for the under-23s after missing out entirely in the defeat to Wigan.

Speaking after the reserve side’s clash against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday, Corberan said that the 22-year-old was only given one half in order to “follow the normal process” of the first-team.

However, Mills does not fathom why the striker was not given longer after manager Marcelo Bielsa revealed he was left out against Wigan due to his lack of match fitness.

“It’s strange, isn’t it, that Bielsa’s said he’s not up to speed, he’s not quite match fit but we’re only going to play him for 45 minutes,” Mills told Football Insider.

“He wasn’t able to be put on the bench, he wasn’t considered fit enough or ready enough to be on the bench and then he’s only given 45 minutes in an under-23 game – I don’t understand sometimes.

“Bielsa – huge respect, he’s been unbelievable and some of the performances that they’ve put in have been outstanding but you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net. There has to be a plan B.”

Augustin, who is on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season, only played 13 times for AS Monaco during a temporary spell at the Ligue 1 side during the first half of the campaign.

The French under-21 international has over 30 games of experience in both the French and German top flights as well as Champions League and Europa League matches under his belt.

In other Leeds United news, Kevin Phillips is also flummoxed after an update from Bielsa.
