'I have a feeling' - Exclusive: Bent makes big West Brom & Brentford promotion prediction

Darren Bent predicts that West Brom will be leapfrogged by Brentford in the hunt for automatic promotion after the Baggies’ defeat to Huddersfield.

The former Derby County and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, reveals he had a feeling Slaven Bilic’s men would slip up and that Friday’s loss was a “sucker punch” for their momentum.

Brentford can guarantee a place in the Premier League next season by picking up four points from their final two games, with West Brom hoping Stoke can do them a favour on Saturday.

Bent admits he is not expecting the Bees to slip up and insists the Baggies face a tough battle to win the play-offs if they do drop out the top two over the next week.

Bent told Football Insider: “I just had this feeling West Brom were going to slip up. I don’t know why but I just had this feeling and the I have a feeling that Brentford are going to get the second spot because they are relentless.

“At the minute, it’s not like Brentford are just getting over the line, they’re absolutely destroying teams and even if the score finishes 1-0, they probably should have scored three or four.

“My fear for West Brom is they’ve been in the top two all season and you know what it’s like with momentum, that punch to the stomach where you drop to the play-offs and momentum’s not on their side.

“That’s what it is – it is a sucker punch because you fight all season, you’re top, you’re the best team but then you lose a couple of results and you’ve got to go through the whole lottery of the play-offs. The way Brentford are playing, I can’t see anyone stopping them.”

Brentford have won all seven games since the Championship return, including a 1-0 win over West Brom back in June.

They have conceded just two goals in those fixtures and have netted 15 of their own.
